Elaborate, if necessary:
Elena’s whole life can be described as a search for her own unique role. From her teenage years to her growth to a mature adult, Elena is determined to be the best she can be, even if she’s not sure how to go about it. Eager to prove herself and earn the respect of those around her, she can sometimes fail to temper her enthusiasm, charging at a situation like a bull at a gate instead of giving things careful thought.
During her high school years Elena’s greatest concern was how not to be a Turk. Tired of being constantly compared to her over-achieving elder sister, Elena sought her own path of achievement, dropping out of her marksmanship training to concentrate of physical fighting instead.
Even so, this wasn’t enough for her for her to feel valued as an individual. Elena would often react to her sister and the Turks in general with disdain, convincing herself that they were nothing but Shinra’s lapdogs and that her sister was pushy and overbearing.
During the event of Before Crisis, Elena underwent an experience that completely changed her mind towards the Turks. After following some suspicious looking “soldiers” Elena was kidnapped and eventually forced to fight side-by-side with a Turk. When the Turk refused to sacrifice Elena for the sake of the mission, this impressed Elena enough to make her reconsider her opinions. After some inner turmoil, she decided that maybe the Turks weren’t so bad after all, and that becoming a Turk might actually be a good option.
Elena was recruited into the Turks after Reno was injured fighting AVALANCHE. Appearing at the Mythril Mines, she initially seemed to be well established in her role as a Turk, even making vague threats towards AVALANCHE. However this would prove not to be the case. After accidently blurting out Sephiroth’s location and failing to see what she did wrong, it seemed that Elena’s self-confidence in her new role didn’t necessarily match her skills.
Soon after she started, Elena developed a crush on her superior Tseng. To her, Tseng represents her perfect role model, a person that is smart, successful and a high achiever, and she idolises him to the point of scolding her co-workers when they don’t act like him, even when they are much more experienced than she is.
Elena's worship of Tseng could be seen as highly ironic considering how much she disdained her sister for the same behaviour. Alternatively, it could be interpreted as a sign of insecurity in her role, with Elena trying to find her true self by swinging from one extreme to another.
Several times, it is shown that Elena is much more eager to fight than her co-Turks. Unlike Reno, Elena considers being a Turk an honour rather than a job, and she is often concerned with upholding their dignity. For her, the mission always comes first, no matter what. Her concern with saving face may be indicative of how much she considers being a Turk to be her role in life. For her it’s more than a label - it’s the center of her life.
Elena is still a decent shot with a gun, despite her apparent disregard for learning the skill. Her real talent however lies with hand-to-hand combat. She won several awards for her fighting skills back when she was a student and her punch is strong enough to knock out Cloud Strife. In the final Turk battle in the original game, Elena's stats are actually slightly higher than Reno or Rude's and her punch can take away approximately 500px.
Initially it would seem that Elena relishes a good fight, judging by how eager she seems to be to start one. However she doesn't enjoy hurting people simply for the sake of sadism, and if you get hit by her at Icicle in the game she shows bewilderment rather than triumph or pleasure.
During Meteorfall Elena was reunited with her long-estranged sister. Judging by Elena’s reaction to finding her sister alive and well, it can probably be assumed that Elena no longer see her sister as a rival but as a colleague, perhaps even an equal.
Although detail in scarce, it can be safely assumed that Elena matures and grows in skill and confidence in the years between Meteorfall and the events of Advent Children. When once she was impetuous and overly-confident, Elena shows a steely will and great strength of character in AC. Not only does she fail to break under brutal torture, but she fights bravely against the Remnants even at the risk of Tseng’s and even her own life. Still as devoted to the mission as ever, she chooses to let Reno escape with Jenova’s head rather than try to save her and Tseng’s lives. Later she helps rescue Rufus by shooting a net, showing a calm and collected attitude towards an act that would be rather unnerving.
In the brief scenes we see of her in the movie, it seems Elena has come a long way, and may even have found the sense of security in her identity she has been looking for for so long.
What are they bringing to Nuadoria?: Cell phone, handgun, extra clip, fingerless gloves

She looked like her sister.
Much to her frustration, that was the first thing that popped into Elena’s mind when she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Not you look wonderfully professional, or that suit really looks good on you, or even your father would be so proud. Instead all she could think about was how much she looked like her damn sister.
Well, it was her suit.
Sneaking into her sister’s bedroom and stealing her clothes was a normal thing for Elena, and had been even before Elena had hit her growth spurt and caught up to her in height. It drove her sister crazy, which Elena had to admit, was probably the main reason why she kept doing it. She never had any good clothes anyway.
Even after her sister had moved into the Tower with the other Turks Elena still did it, even if it was mostly for kicks. Stealing and copying her father’s security pass had been pathetically easy, and the guards were more often than not asleep at their posts.
Normally Elena wouldn’t even give her sister’s suit a second glance. Sometimes she’d even pick up her blazer or tie by her thumb and forefinger and wrinkle her nose in contempt, as if it were some dirty gym sock.
But this time had been different. Her sister was on another mission and Elena had taken the chance raid her wardrobe yet again. But instead of going for her shoes or her coats like she usually did, or stealing one of her little butterfly knives to take with her on her next exploration of the slums, Elena had found herself drawn to the suit.
She remembered how she’d been kidnapped last week, and how she’d been found by a Turk, and how somehow she’d ended up fighting by his side. There had been something so…noble about him. When he’d challenged the fighter that had been holding her, Elena had been able to see the confidence and determination in his eyes. She had always thought of Turks as skulking cowards that fought in the dark and did whatever they were told. It had never occurred to her that they could be heroic and brave.
If she became a Turk, could she become noble and brave too?
The thought had latched onto her like a guardhound and wouldn’t let her go. Every time Elena tried to remind herself just why she disliked the Turks, she’d end up thinking about fighting alongside the Turk instead, and how right it had felt. The feeling wasn’t going away no matter how hard she tried to ignore it, and when she’d spied her sister’s spare suit hanging in the wardrobe, she’d had an irresistible urge to try it on.
Elena fiddled with a strand of hair self-consciously before tucking it behind her ear. Her hair had only been cut recently, and it was still taking some getting used to. Her graduation from the Academy was coming up, and Elena had wanted to look as mature and elegant as possible. Her father had said that her hairstyle was impractical, but Elena was proud of how feminine it made her look. She chosen it deliberately, looking from something completely unlike her sister’s tomboyish bowl cut.
Elena frowned at her reflection and then made a face, trying to look as fierce and badass as possible. That ended up looking quite ridiculous, so she took a deep breath and assumed a martial arts pose instead.
There. That did look impressive. With her fists up, she didn’t look nearly as much like her sister as when she did just standing to attention. She looked like an intimidating fighter instead.
Elena hummed to herself happily. Who would have thought a simple suit could make her look so dangerously awesome?
She wouldn’t ask to join them. There was no way she’d lower herself to beg for their favour. She was much too proud for that.
But if they asked her…
Well, they’d just have to wait and see.

Oh no, I've gotten lost!. This is so incredibly embarrassing. Rude and Reno are going to laugh at me, I just know it.
